How to re-invent yourself
September is here, and with that my favourite season is quickly approaching.
Beautiful autumn.
The leaves will turn the most majestic colours, and the air will feel crispy with a hint of cosiness.
All the best outfits, and tv shows will be replayed under the autumn blanket you use all year round, but now, it’s finally time to use it.
It’s the time of the year where you have to appreciate everyday even more, because one blink and the leaves will die, and winter will come.
So for now, we get to enjoy the crunchy leaves and the orange hues, while slowly sipping pumpkin spice latte with extra whipped cream.
Since a new season is approaching, I wanted to take this time to start over.
You know how people usually put in a lot of pressure on the 1st of January?
They write up all these goals they want to achieve, and then 1st of January comes along and they simply want to become a different person?
I was like that once.
And let me tell you, like many other people, I didn’t last a week.
And why is that?
Well, because although you’ve got a different mindset, which is good, the actions are the same.
We can’t just expect to become a whole different person overnight.
And not to mention the awful pressure the 1st of January must be feeling.
But anyways, why should we wait for the 1st of January?
I want to change, and I’m going to do it right now.
All we need is a plan.
How to re-invent yourself:
I want to be in my, “little-miss-challenges-herself-Era” so these are some of the ways that I would like to improve myself.
Take my time:
For the last month or so I have been rushing out of the door to go into work, no makeup on, rarely having a good sustaining breakfast, and just feeling super tired.
The problem here probably starts with me waking up an hour before having to leave the house, which only gives me time to make some cereal, watch an episode of, and I’m not kidding, Totally Spies, which I recently found out is on Amazon Prime.
Then I brush my teeth and splash my face with water, get dressed and go.
I guess I would just like to actually use the skincare products I buy that I often decide are going to change my life.
I need to wake up early in the morning and make a good healthy breakfast, eat it while I watch my cartoons, and then do some reading. I used to read non fiction books in the morning, and I would like to start again. Also, I want to start writing what I’m grateful for, and words of affirmation.
I should probably do a morning routine.
But basically what I’m saying is I want to slow down and take my time instead of rushing. And this is for every aspect of my life. I want to appreciate every moment as they come.
Be on time:
Not only do I rush out of the door, I also manage to be late for work. which kind of circles back to my last point. I need to give myself more time in the morning to be able to eat breakfast, and do my makeup and my hair, and then give myself plenty of time to get to work so I don’t get stuck in traffic.
I think the best thing to do is probably create a tracking sheet with all of the tasks I want to get done, and then tick them off as I go.
Get off my phone:
Next thing that I need to work on, and I think a lot of people might relate with, is getting off our phones.
Doing more hobbies. being more creative.
I feel like I have always been very creative, and I love to make thinks with my hands, but in the last couple of years I have been really lacking creativity. I need to build an environment where I can be more creative again.
And it all starts with putting down that damn phone.
Because I have started to do more hobbies recently, I have a few that I would highly recommend:
Cross-stitching- I love to cross-stitch, I think it’s so much fun. It is a little confusing at first, I find that I have to give it my full attention, which means I can’t multi-task, which can be great if you want to just to relax and listen to music or a podcast.
Diamond painting by numbers- This has easily become my favourite hobby in a good while. It is so satisfying and fun. I could spend hours doing this. However, you do need to have a dedicated area so you don’t accidentally spill all the diamonds, like I for sure have never done before. I decided to do it on the sofa once, and it did not go well...
Reading- This is a great hobby because you can do it anywhere anytime. You can either have a physical copy with you, or you can have it on your phone. I really need to read more, unfortunately, a hobby I like more than reading, is buying books. But hey, I might not have read a single book from start to finish, but at least I have started 5 books from the 15 I have bought this year.... so far.
Financial decisions:
The next thing on the re-inventing myself list is to be better with my financial decisions. I probably spend a lot more money than I should, and I definitely need to be more mindful. But the first step is acknowledgment, so I am already succeeding. For this topic, I think the best thing to do is to create a financial tracker, and just write down how much money you got paid, and how much was spent, this way you can reflect on much money you spent, and hopefully learn your lesson and put that money in a savings account next time.
Movement:
The last topic I have is movement, because it’s something that I take for granted a lot, and I could definitely improve on. This doesn’t just have to be running or weight lifting, this can literally be walking or doing yoga. I just really want to practice being connected with my body, and being grateful that I get to wake up every morning and be able to move and walk. I am just very lucky to be blessed with something so many wish to have, and I should act accordingly.
And that’s all I have to say for this week. I will be trying to follow my own advice, and I will update you next Sunday.
I hope this was insightful, and at least a tad bit helpful.
I hope you have a fantastic week, and I will see you next time.
Love, Dee.
